So when you've finally reached that sad moment when you lit the wick to burn that last bit of love left in your Onni candle. Don't just toss the jar away, our jars are 100% recyclable making our candles completely eco-friendly from the first moment you light them till re-purposing the jar once the wax is all gone. Here are some ideas on how to clean and reuse your Onni Candle jars.
THE THINGS YOU'LL NEED...
- A dinner knife
- A dinner fork
- Tweezers (if you don’t have long-ish nails)
- Paper towels
- A scrubby style sponge or textured washcloth
STEP 1 - REMOVING THE WAX FROM YOUR JAR
But before we start, here's a tip... Before you start, make sure your Onni Candle jars have been in the freezer for 12 or so hours. This freezes the little bit of leftover wax in the bottom of the jar making it much, much easier to remove during this process.
To begin, hold your Onni Candle jar in one hand then gently but firmly press the tip of the knife into the frozen wax. Make sure you avoid stabbing the wax though because you don’t want to break or chip the cold glass. By applying just the right amount of pressure, firmly pressing the knife tip into the wax should cause the remaining soy wax to break apart into chunks.
These leftover pieces of wax can either be discarded or get even more life out of your candle by using them in a wax melter to extend the life of your favorite Onni candle.
Next, removing the wick tab. Take a fork and gently pry up the metal wick tab located in the center of the jar. The easiest way to do this is to turn the jar with one hand while pulling up gently on each edge until it comes loose. Discard this as well.
STEP 2 - CLEANING YOUR ONNI JAR
First, you'll need to remove our label. Using either tweezers or your fingernail, start peeling the label off the jar. They should come right off as our labels are made from recycled paper. Not only are they environmentally friendly but this makes removing them a simple process. All you need to do is peel slowly and firmly from one of the corners and use a little dish soap and water to remove any access residue. Also, don't forget to remove the warning label from the bottom of the jar.
Before washing your jars, take a paper towel and wipe away any soot or remaining wax from the inside of your jar. With the jars at room temperature, use a scrubby sponge, lightly wash the jar with hot water and soap. Dry them with a paper towel and buff them a little to get rid of any fingerprints.
Wa-lah...you're done!
STEP 3 - WHAT YOU CAN USE THE JARS FOR
Our candle jars are very useful. We’ve used these jars for everything from additional storage for office supplies to planting to keeping leftovers in our fridge. Unlike paraffin candles, our soy candles are made with natural ingredients which makes them free from any harmful by-products. Below are a few ideas of what we have used our jars for...
- Pen and marker storage
- Paper clip storage
- To grow herbs on the kitchen windowsill
- Store leftovers
- Small bathroom storage (cotton balls, Q-tips, band-aids, etc.)
