The Vision For The Perfect Candle
Why We Started...
For years we were in search of the perfect candle. With a growing family we wanted one that was non-toxic and safe to burn while filling our home with an amazing aroma. And so the search for a candle that would be safe for our pets and children to be around began. We found some with a really nice scent... but didn’t last very long. Others seemed to last forever but the aroma was really weak. Most of the candles we tried burned dirty leaving soot everywhere. After spending a lot of money burning many candles and investing a ton of hours, we simply couldn’t find the perfect mix of both. So... we decided to create it!
Many have asked "Why Onni?" The word "onni" (pronounced /ˈon.ni/) is Finnish for happiness and luck. We felt this name would be perfect as we wanted to create products that evoked happy memories and reminded us in life we all need a little luck along the way.
What Makes Us America's Favorite Soy Candle...
At Onni Candle, we focus on making the best all natural, clean burning candles that will put an amazing aroma throughout your home. We are proud to say our scented candles are American-made. We support American farmers by using 100% soy wax derived from soy plants grown on American soil.
Our eco-friendly candles are also great for your family and the environment. All the ingredients we use in our candles are all-natural and phthalate-free so they are non-toxic, don't contain dyes, and are perfect to use around pets and children. They are biodegradable being made from a natural, renewable resource that will burn for hours and hours. We use 100% cotton wicks and 100% phthalate-free fragrances infused with natural essential oils. Once your done burning your candle you can easily clean and recycle the glass jars for storage purposes.
You might be thinking, “This is all great but what about the strength of the fragrance?" After many days of testing, we are proud to say we finally found the perfect ratio of fragrance/wax mix that provides a delightful fragrance throw for your home. Our Daughter's Journey
April 9, 2018, was a day my husband and I had been looking forward to since we found out I was pregnant, just not in the exact way our baby came into the world.
From the beginning, our beautiful baby girl was a surprise, but the biggest surprise came 7 months later when she decided she had enough time in mommy’s tummy and wanted to make her very early debut into the world. Watching on in intent, not hearing that beautiful sound of a brand-new babies first cry, I overheard the Pediatric Doctor say to my husband “I’m worried”. Sending all emotions coursing through my body as I lay there helpless watching as the fast-acting NICU team hooked up all the tubes and wires to this tiny 3lb 9oz baby girl, my baby girl.
Every day from that moment was a grueling. A day turned into a week. A week into two months in the NICU, and as any other mom of a NICU baby can tell you, you’re helpless. The fight is up to this brand-new baby and fought our little girl did. Every day she grew stronger, not without setbacks of course, but passed each milestone she had to hit for us to be able to bring her home. It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions but all you have is hope, patience and love to keep going each day.
Fast forward to today, we have a crazy, rambunctious and healthy toddler with no signs of being a preemie. Our journey during her first couple months of life made my husband and I realize that we wanted to start a company that was not only the essence of “comfort” but also was able to give back, just as the NICU team gave us hope each day our little girl was going to be alright. Onni Candle was started and as part of our “give back” we are giving 10% of our net profits of candle sales directly to agencies that help the families of premature babies such as the March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House and local NICUs.
We share our story to remind everyone that in your darkest of times, there is always a light burning at the end. We may not know why instances happen in life but I like to think that our daughter taught us through all this to slow down, enjoy the times and memories and also to help give back to those in need.
